Description

A musical clock in the oldest square of Vienna

Hoher Markt Clock was built in 1911 by Franz von Matsch. Twelve historical figures traverse a bridge counting the minutes. Joseph Haydn and Walther von der Vogelweide, Empress Maria Theresa and Prince Eugen of Savoya are among them, and each is accompanied by classic music from differing eras.

The beautiful Ankeruhr, Hoher Markt Clock, decorated with mosaic ornaments, actually forms a bridge between two parts of the Anker Insurance Company building. Tourists enjoy watching the movement, though it takes 12 hours to see all of the figures, or pairs of figures, make their way across the 10 meter long clock bridge.
