The inner-city ring road and historic walking area
Inner Ring, or Ringstrasse, is the name of Vienna’s central downtown. There are highways on three sides of this Old Vienna neighborhood and the Danube Canal on the fourth. Train tours circle the area, but walking tours are the best way to see monuments, historical and architectural sites.
The German word for Inner Ring literally means belt. The Inner Ring surrounds and encompasses the city district. On a walking tour of this area you’ll see the Opera House, the looming Gothic church of St. Stephansdom, statues of Mozart and Strauss and of curse the Imperial Palace. For a break stop in at the famous Sacher Café for a Sacher torte.
