Description

Always open, scheduled guided tours included with admission

The Parliament Building designed by Theophil Hansen was built between 1873 and 1883. Greek style architecture with Corinthian columns is in deference to Greece, the birthplace of democracy. The Imperial and Provincial delegations met here. There are marble statues, carvings and reliefs to see.

The carvings above the portico of the Parliament Building depict the granting of the Constitution to the people of Austria by Franz Joseph I. There are 76 beautiful marble statues to admire and more than 66 relief works. Guided tours are at 11am and 3pm except from mid-July to August when tours are at 9, 10 and 11am, and 1, 2, and 3pm. Photography is prohibited.
