Description

This baroque memorial, designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in 1693 and topped with a golden roof, dominates the Graben in Vienna. It was built by Emperor Leopold I to honor the 75,000 residents of the city who perished in the bubonic-plague epidemic of 1679.
