Description

Friedrich von Schmidt, the designer of Cologne Cathedral, completed Vienna's neo-Gothic City Hall in 1883, modelling it after Flemish city halls. With intricate stonework, pointed-arch windows and spindly turrets, it is considered to be the highlight of the Ringstrasse boulevard's 19th-century architectural ensemble. In the Rathauspark, two bronze statues of Joseph Lanner and Johann Strauss I can be seen in the fountain-filled park. Free one-hour guided tours of the City Hall are availble in German; multilingual audio guides are also available at no cost.
